HALLOWEEN




A.  First of all, we're going to read about the history and origins of Halloween and about
      some typical Halloween traditions. You'll find lots of information here.

      Once you have read all the information, answer the following questions:

      1. What did the Celts believe about the last night of October?
      2. Why did they build bonfires?
      3. Why are pumpkin lanterns called Jack-o-lanterns?
      4.What is the meaning of lighting candles in Jack-o-lanterns?
      5. What is the origin of the tradition of dressing in costume for Halloween?

      8. What did people originally believe about black cats?


B.  Now write your own ghost story.
     Choose one  of the following starters:

     It was the night before Halloween...
     One dark and rainy Halloween night...
     Everybody said that old mansion was haunted...
